Eck McCanless Pottery
Specializing in pottery and ceramics
Eck was exposed to pottery at a young age in his parents shop in Seagrove, NC. At age 10, he turned his first pot and soon began making spoon rests and small pots to sell in the family shop.
In 1993, at age 18 Eck began turning pots professionally. Turning alongside his father Al McCanless who pushed him to stretch his imagination, as well as the clay on the wheel. Eck soon became known for his lightweight and elegant forms.
In 2011 Eck opened his own pottery studio in Seagrove and began to focus on the Agateware style of pottery. This style utilizes the colors of the clay and their manipulation in the potter’s hands. A skilled artisan can create Agateware
pottery that simulates the look of wood grain, marble and even rippled ice cream.
Over the years Eck’s work has won several awards and has been featured in well-known publications such as Pinehurst, Southern Living and Our State.
